ENVY ALERT ! Your pillows might get jealous.
It’s not every day you get invited to a decorative pillow collection launch and since I’ve never been to one before or any furniture launch for that matter, I was ready for the ‘pillow turn up’. I have to admit though, I was caught in a dilemma as to whether my ‘plus one’ should be a couch, chair or even a pillow rather than an actual person, but I went with my gut and chose the latter. Toni Suratsingh of Toni Crockett Design launched a decorative pillow collection that focused on four exotic themes called Bamboo, Coral, Cocoa and Amerindian. However, as snazzy as they already sound, the true luxury lay in their production process. Made with hand painted fabrics by Lisa Sarjeant Gonzales of Lisa Fabrics and sewn by Sew Chic Interiors, I’d say these pillows were as spoiled as an only child.
“sun tanning poolside and ‘chillaxing’ on an outdoor bench”
So what’s a decorative pillow collection launch like? Imagine two pristine rooms with sophisticated lighting displays of hand crafted pillows. Oh and some flat screen monitors here and there flashing editorial style photos of the pillows posing in gardens ,sun tanning poolside and ‘chillaxing’ on an outdoor bench. They were even obnoxious enough to have the one thing I would loose all sense of reasoning for, food. I’m talking Cajun and Mexican wraps by WrapsWork Deli, cake treats courtesy The Youthful Vegan (because vegans need love too) and fresh strawberry and lemon infused water. Mouthwatering yet? Doesn’t it all seem pretty fetch to you? Well, it definitely was and my bulged belly and big smile that night told the true tale.
You cannot imagine how relieved I was that my pillows at home were not in attendance, what an ego buster that would have been for them. Did I mention the designer Toni and her sweet and sensational personality? When I met the fresh faced designer, I felt like I had known her for years or she was a close friend I had not seen in ages. The designer worked the rooms flawlessly with her husband and business partner Rishi Suratsingh all night long. No wonder the first installation of her Decorative Pillow Collection is already sold out after only being launched over roughly a week ago , but have no fear they’re already busy sewing up a second batch.
While you wait patiently, you can view their beautiful look book and images from the collection launch night below. This event was a wonderfully subtle reminder to me of how much more fashion is than just clothes. It’s everywhere.
