The Wine Is Better When It’s Old
It was the type of images we all didn’t see coming but we were all ready for. This year’s Spring/Summer campaigns are off to an incredible start with some of the art industry’s most ‘advanced cultural icons’ posing as the cover stars of luxurious fashion brands. It’s not the first time the more ‘advanced’ moguls are featured in ads but this year it’s turned into a bit of a trend. Well known writer/journalist Joan Didion’s Campaign for Céline sent social media into raving frenzies that continued with Saint Laurent dropping ads featuring 70s folk musician Joni Mitchell. Of course, the brand campaigns could not be complete if 93 year old legendary fashion icon Iris Apfel didn’t make her debut on a couple campaigns herself. She is currently the star of two brand ad campaigns this season as she poses alongside 19 year old Tavi Gevinson for Alexis Bittar jewelry campaign and recently posed with supermodel Karlie Kloss for Kate Spade New York. The twist of incorporating these icons in a sector of fashion that highly propagates the world’s biggest supermodels is both a relief and a breathe of fresh air. One thing is for sure , these ads have been the most exciting ones for the season and are at the top of our list for the best campaigns for the year thus far.
