My New York Fashion Week Experience : The Highlights , Being Backstage and Beyond.

It’s funny how the world works. I had absolutely no clue I would have the awesome privilege of being a part of the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week this year . I was totally stunned at my invitation to attend The Art Institutes showing of some of the top Fashion Designers graduating from their degree program that came from all over the country. They were all here in New York showing for Fashion Week and I cannot begin to imagine how absolutely humbled and proud they must have been to be apart of it. New York Fashion Week is one of fashion’s biggest events of the season and features the most designers out of all the fashion week cities around the world. For an entire week The Lincoln Center in New York City is transformed into fashion central and is the host to runway shows of some of fashions most coveted designers like Carolina Herrera , Tommy Hilfiger , Naeem Khan , Dennis Basso etc. These shows are attended by some of the biggest celebrities in the world and the most famous fashion mavens around.

The Art Institutes runway show which I attended featured 13 of the Institute’s finest designers from around the country. Each designer showcased a collection that reflected their deep points of view and their own interpretation of sophistication and flair. Designer Joshuan Aponte’s collection was one of the more daring as he boycotted the dark colours that usually accompany Autumn/Winter collections and instead played up bright varying hues of fushia , violet and blue with florescent touches of yellow. “I was also very much inspired by shapes , particularly circles for this collection, ” the designer explained when talking about his crystal garments which incorporated Swarovski elements that bedazzled the room. Other collections that had the room swooning were Lauren Barisic with her collection that was inspired by the movie “Charade” , Luis Aponte with his touch of what seemed to be a pale but still very rich shade of yellow in each garment and Rie Yamamoto with her designs exhibiting old-fashioned silhouettes with an exciting modern twist that seemed almost futuristic. There was even a Caribbean Native , Simone Young who hails all the way from Jamaica who was also a part of the amazing line up of talents showing that night.

I was so ecstatic to be there and I am so thrilled to share all the happenings from “The Highlights” of the show to my “Backtage” pass and the other amazing sights while inside and outside the Lincoln Center. So here is my all access pass to the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week in New York City.

Hope you enjoy!
xoxo,
Kez.
